This Potatoes Au Gratin recipe makes a rich dish thats great for any event. Potato slices that are very thin are layered and baked in a creamy sauce with Gruyere cheese until they are golden and bubbly. This is the best comfort food ever

Ingredients:

  • 4 large potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups grated Gruyere cheese
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 2 tablespoons butter, diced

Instructions:

Preheat oven to 375F 190C

Layer half of the sliced potatoes in a greased baking dish

Sprinkle half of the grated cheese over the potatoes

Repeat with the remaining potatoes and cheese

In a small saucepan, heat the heavy cream, garlic, nutmeg, salt, and pepper over medium heat until just simmering

Pour the cream mixture evenly over the potatoes and cheese in the baking dish

Dot the top of the dish with diced butter

Cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes

Remove the foil and bake for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown

Let it cool for a few minutes before serving

Garnish with fresh herbs if desired
